Choosing a new kitchen can be an exciting time, but it’s also something that must be given lots of thought, after all, with the kitchen being the heart of the home, it’s a place that you have to be completely in love with.
Over the last few decades, the kitchen has been used more as the place to entertain as well as just a room in which to prepare food, so this is why it has to be welcoming for guests and convenient for entertaining, as well as food preparation.
Once you’ve made the decision to buy a new kitchen, have a good think about what you need in there, how you want it to look and where you want it to sit with the look and feel of the rest of your home.
Using our many years in the kitchen industry, we have put together Dewhirst’s mini guide to planning a new kitchen to give you some ideas.
- Firstly, as mentioned previously, give some thought to your lifestyle and what your kitchen will be used for. If you have friends and family around a lot, perhaps you’ll favour more spaces to entertain and the provision of things such as an ice maker and wine cooler. However, if you love cooking, maybe it should be about the kind of appliances you have and the amount of work areas you’ll need. Our probing customer survey questions are designed to get to know your requirements at a deep level.
- Money comes in to choice and design. Most people have a feel of what is too low and unrealistic, and too high and scary! Think in chunks of £5,000.00, so for example are you comfortable at £10 – £15k? £20 – £25k? £30 – £35k? etc. We can offer similar looks at alternative price ranges. What is the most important part of a kitchen to you? A large family might, for example, prefer lots of storage space, whereas, someone more keen on the look of their kitchen may veer towards impressive worktops and cupboards.
- Do your homework – call in to our showroom to get a really good look at the masses of different styles of kitchen there are to choose from these days, from the more traditional, to modern, contemporary and exotic. Whatever suits your style, you’re bound to find it if you look around. We guide and ask you questions to reduce the millions of combinations down to usually just a few. We can help you see the wood through the trees!
- Finally, once you’ve made decisions on things such as the look, design, appliances and worktops, lighting and decor fall into place naturally to really set the mood.
